You spend a lot of time and money choosing the right mattress for yourself or someone you love. Accidents happen and if your mattress is stained by urine, you can choose one of the following 3 methods based on household items and its condition to clean it up.
Method 1: Cleaning Dry Urine Stains
1. Use a wet sponge or towel to wet the stained urine area but do not soak. Moisture will expand the range of urine stains. You only need to dilute the stain.
2. Sprinkle borax to cover all the stained area. Borax will neutralize the smell of urine. 3. Rub borax into the mattress to be blended into the urine stains. It should appear to penetrate the surface. (Optional: Protect your hands by wearing rubber gloves.)
4. Let the bed dry thoroughly. If possible, please put the mattress in the sun to dry, or in a well-ventilated place. Keep doors and windows open for ventilation or turn on the fan to speed up the drying process.
5. Remove the powder with a vacuum cleaner from the mattress. Depending on how much borax you use, you may leave residual powder when you wipe away the borax. 6. Put the mattress back on the bed. You’re done!.
Method 2: Cleaning Wet Urine Stains
1. Carefully dry the stained area several times with a sponge. If the sponge is soaked, you can replace the sponge, or wring it dry before you use it again. 2. Use a clean wet sponge to wet the area of urine stain. This will dilute the urine so that you can blot out more urine. 3. Repeat step 2 until the urine is light enough to be ignored. 4. Wet the sponge with topical alcohol or vinegar to clean the diluted urine on the mattress. This is to kill bacteria in the urine. 5. Let the bed dry thoroughly. If possible, please put the mattress in the sun to dry, or in a well-ventilated place. Keep doors and windows open for ventilation or turn on the fan to speed up the drying process. 6. Put the mattress back on the bed. You’re done!.

6. Let the bed dry thoroughly. If possible, please put the mattress in the sun to dry, or in a well-ventilated place. Keep doors and windows open for ventilation or turn on the fan to speed up the drying process.
7. If a layer of baking soda is left on the mattress, you can simply wipe it off or clean it with a vacuum cleaner. Baking soda will not leave marks on the mattress.
